Site Specification and Architecture
If you are looking to rebuild or redesign a website then it is crucially important to think about the most appropriate way of going about what can be a complex project.
In the same way that you employ an architect to design and think through the building of a new house before you employ a builder, it is our view that you should develop a written website specification before you employ a web designer. This allows you, the website owner, to think through all the features that you require on your website and exactly how they will work to best suit your requirements.
Once the specification documentation is drawn up we recommend approaching a small number of designers and asking them to pitch for the work - it is right to be fair on this and a number between 2 and 5 seems right depending on the size of the project. These designers will often price their services competitively because they are aware of the presence of other designers - you may also get some new ideas too from listening to so many different people approach the same task from different angles.
